The Brief:
Ruck n Maul is a staple of the Rotorua hospitality scene, known for its incredible atmosphere and dedication to live sports. To elevate the patron experience, the venue needed a massive visual upgrade. The goal was to replace their older viewing setup with a high-brightness, seamless LED video wall capable of showing a single massive feature event or splitting into multiple feeds for action-packed Sports events.
Our Approach: Measure Twice, Install Once:
With complex LED installations, minimizing disruption to a working venue is critical. Before our vans even left the ACLX warehouse, our technicians fully assembled the LED array in our workshop.
We wired the entire system, mapped the data flows, and stress-tested the power supplies and receiving cards. By pre-configuring the modules off-site, we ensured that when we arrived in Rotorua, the screen would go together flawlessly with zero dead pixels or unexpected hardware faults.
The Challenges on Site:
1. Complex Cable Routing in an Existing Venue Integrating modern AV tech into an established bar requires creative cable management. Our team had to carefully navigate the venue's existing architecture to run discrete power and data lines. This involved feeding cables through tight ceiling cavities and modifying sections beneath the main bar counter to ensure the infrastructure remained completely invisible to patrons, all while keeping the bar's iconic aesthetic intact.
2. Precision Structural Alignment LED panels are entirely unforgiving; if the mounting surface is off by even a millimeter, the seams between the panels will be visible. The designated wall featured an existing wooden slat design and a sloped ceiling. Using a precision laser level, our technicians stripped back the necessary wall space and installed perfectly plumb and level backing board and custom mounting rails to guarantee a flawless, seamless canvas.
3. Multi-View Processing A premium sports bar needs flexibility. The system wasn't just built to be one giant television; it required advanced video processing. We configured the backend hardware so the bar staff could easily switch between one massive, immersive image for the biggest sporting events, or a quad-split screen showing four distinct, high-definition sports feeds simultaneously.
The Result:
The final result is a stunning, ultra-bright LED video wall that dominates the main viewing room. The seamless integration allows patrons to watch the UFC, rugby, and multiple racing feeds all at once with incredible clarity and vibrant color, even during daytime hours with high ambient light.
